The Tweet Cute by Emma Lord is a Rom-Com which features the most famous enemies to friends story line. We have Pepper ( Patricia Evans) and Jack campbell who are basically living in the shadows of their parents and siblings. Pepper’s mom runs a corperate chain of food line ‘The Big League Burger”. Pepper’s been the A student of stone hall high , even though she has been there for four years , she feels like a stranger in school and in New york with zero friends. Her parents got divorced when she was young and she had to move to NY with her mother leaving her dad and her soul back in Nashville. With all her classes, homeworks, swimming practise and college admissions in line, Pepper has been living a scheduled and planned life. Her mom often turns to Pepper for running the corperate twitter account of big league burger now and then which was totally fine until one day they where accused for stealing the recipe of “Grandma’s special grilled cheese” from a small deli in NY. The accusation lead to twitter war between the big league burger and the deli.
Our Jack is a class clown who has been foreshadowed by his twin brother everytime, eventhough he loved his brother Ethan he doesnt like to the backup brother who no one seems to bother about. Jack’s parents owns a Deli (Girl Cheesing) in NY ,in which he spends all his evening times helping his parents. Jack has a secret passion in app development and developed a super cool app named “The Weazel” in which a closed circle of people can register and chat anonymously, which is widely famous among all the students in the school but no one knows about the person who developed this app. Everything in Jack’s life was going asusual until one day he figured out the famous Big league burger stole their grandma’s special grilled cheese recipe and hence the great twitter war began.
On the midst of the twitter war Jack and Pepper came under a circumstance in which they had to work together on behalf of the swim team for the fundraiser progrem in school , without the idea of who eachother was. When Jack and Pepper found out that it was those two who where fighting in the twitter ,they decided to make a deal in which they decide to keep the twitter war going as it was good for both their business but also to ensure that what happens in twitter stays in twitter and should not affect their blooming friendship. Also , Jack and Pepper where chatting with eachother in the Weazel app under the name Wolf and Blue bird without a clue about their true identity. As the twitter war escalated it became more and more personal, they both also couldnt deny the fact that they where attracted to eachother. All of a sudden when the war gets ugly they learn about the secrets of their parents which leads to a series of twists and an undeniable romance. The young couple manage a way to end this dirty war and discover a new path to their future.
The story was really cute eventhough it was bit unrealistic in the aspect of a teen girl running a corporate twitter account and all this twitter war escalation . There was a place in the story in which Pepper’s mom agrees to Pepper about stealing the recipe from the deli for which she has her own reasons but a powerful women stooping this low without worrying about the aftermath effects it may cause on her company for just a pity revenge was quite witless. Also I hated that despite the fact Jack’s father betrayed Pepper’s mother and stole some of her dessert recipes for his deli, he was portrayed as the cool parent and Pepper’s mother was portrayed as an arrogant and sassy parent. Atleast Jack’s father should have owned an apology or he should have told about how he stole the recipe to Jack. There is this monster cake which Pepper bakes, it makes my salivary glands go crazy, I’m seriously suffering from grilled cheese sandwich and monster cake cravings now. This book was a fun and delicious read . As the genre suggests rom-com and fiction readers will definitely like this one.
MY STAR RATING
“I can see it too. That I don’t belong here. That even after all this time and everything I’ve done, the things I’ve pressed and organized and pushed into myself to fit into this place, home is still somewhere a thousand miles away. Farther than that, even. Because that version of home doesn’t exist anymore.”
“A stolen day. The kind of day that ends too fast, but stays with you much longer.”
“It’s like Monster Cake, the Sequel—freaking Christmas in my mouth. I already want more before I’ve even managed to chew.”
