Dont go stealing my heart is the story of a burglar/con artist Clementine Abernathy, she considers herself a modern day Robinhood. Clemenine in her childhood faces the worst side of foster care which gives her a bad image over the system. Clementine is a loner who has no ties or roots anywhere except with her handler whom she considers as a father figure, Lucien. He gives Clementine heists to steal things like paintings or priced possession from rich and distribute the money to the orphanages that are in need. Eventhough, Clementine excels at what she does there are doubts deep in her wheather stealing is good or not but she has no choice as those orphanages are in serious need for money. One day Lucien sends her to a small town called Whichway to steal a VanGogh from the towns most influencial family who doesnt know that they have a VanGogh with them. Clementine makes a thorough study about her mark Jack( Maxwell David Third) , the CFO of the David Industries who is her only key to the VanGogh. When Clementine was about to meet Jack , she expected a rich arrogant egoistic guy but he was the opposite to that which surprised her and made her fall for him. She came to know that Jack was also into reptiles just like her and they both have bearded dragon as a pet named after the characters from ‘ I Love Lucy’. Clementine was aware that Jack is her mark and she has to steal the painting to feed the orphans but she couldnt resist herself from falling for him, this makes clementine to drop the heist and decides to start a newlife with Jack. She knew that her relationship with Jack wont be the same when he learns the truth about her, but she was ready to risk it all for him. Clementine quitting from the heist draws unwanted attention towards herself and the painting. The plot twists that comes after takes the breathe away from readers.
The story is well written by the author, eventhough the love between Clementine and Jack is undeniable, I felt it was kind of forced and rushed. I was not able to feel the spark and magic between them at the start but the story kept me going and I liked the way the story rolled. I liked how the author brought refrences from her previous novel ‘NEW ORLEANS RUSH’ into the story. There is a girl named Annie Ward who is a long lost friend of Clementine from her foster home, when she mentioned how Annie was bullied by other foster kids ,I felt sorry for her. In the epilouge the author shares a glipmse from her next novel ‘THE BEAT MATCH’, which is going to be story of Annie Ward the foster kid ,I cant wait to see how that turnsout. Readers who has already read Ms. Siskind’s books or the ones who love to read romance novels will surely enjoy this one.
